How To Appeal Your Disability Benefits Denial

When you are in great need of disability benefits, it can be heartbreaking when you have your application rejected. It is very common to have your application rejected the first time you apply, and often the reason is due to a minor mistake that you made in the application that you submitted, or due to a failure in providing enough information.

Therefore, if you have experienced a denial of Social Security benefits or Supplemental Security Income (SSI), it is important that you do not lose hope. Being proactive in learning what went wrong in your application is often the key to completing a successful application the second time around.

Establishing the reason for your application denial

Your application could have been denied for a variety of reasons, but this reason should have been explained to you in your decision letter.

Your application may have been denied for medical reasons. For example, they may argue that your disability is not recognized as you describe it, in which case you may have grounds to make an appeal. Alternatively, you may have missed out some information that the Social Security Administration (SSA) needs in order to make a decision. Your application may also be denied due to a nonmedical reason, for example your income or living arrangements. In this case, you should review your application and make sure that all information is correct.

If you are struggling to successfully apply for Social Security benefits, it is a good idea to continue your research in how your circumstances can be catered for in Indiana.
